Fall 2023 Advisor Assignments Update
As a reminder, all students new to the CS Major will be assigned an advisor tomorrow, September 25. Please make sure you check your Terpmail in the afternoon to ensure you're not missing any communication from the department! CS Undergraduate Advising Office's Information Week (week of October 16)
The CS Undergraduate Advising Office will hold three information sessions/workshops for current CS students and prospective major applicants. More information about each session will be posted soon.

Fall 2023 Advisor Assignments
All students new to the CS Major will be assigned an advisor by September 25. Please make sure you check your Terpmail often to ensure you're not missing any communication from the department!

Fall 2023 CS Exception to Policy Requests
The CS Undergraduate Advising Office will not accept Fall 2023 exception requests after the close of business today. We will reopen the exception form for Winter 2024 and Spring 2024 exception requests on or around October 17, 2023. If you have a questions or concerns about a fall exception request, please reach out to the CS Undergraduate Advising Office at ugrad [at] cs.umd.edu for assistance.

Temporary Area 2 Courses
The following CMSC courses can be applied to Distributive Area 2 of the CS major (Fall 2023 only):

• CMSC 498E (3) Selected Topics in Computer Science; Robotics
• CMSC 498Z (3) Selected Topics in Computer Science; Differentiable Programming

Please contact your assigned academic advisor to apply either course towards your CS major requirements (where applicable).

Newly Added CMSC4XX Courses / Open Seats
Are you looking for a second or third CMSC4XX course to add to your schedule this fall? Several more CMSC4XX courses have been added to the Schedule of Classes over the summer, and there are a number of courses with open seats! If you are on a long waitlist for other CMSC4XX courses, we encourage you to look into other options.

There have been six new sections of CMSC132 added to the Schedule of Classes. Since the Office of the Registrar added the seats today, the new sections will not show up on Testudo/Schedule of Classes until tomorrow. Students should still be able to register for the new CMSC132 sections by typing the course name in the drop/add form in Testudo.

As always, the CS Department recommends current and prospective CS students to prioritize their major coursework over Gen Ed, Upper Level Concentration, General Elective, and minor coursework. If you have any questions about this policy, please reach out to your assigned advisor.
