SCHEDULE YOUR ADVISING
We recommend scheduling an appointment in advance with your advisor, at https://webapps.cs.umd.edu/ugrad/advising/login.php This is the easiest way to ensure you have enough quality time to get everything you need from your time together.
You are always welcome to walk in to see an advisor, but he or she may not be able to give you the time that you need on the spot. Therefore, we urge you to try to find an appointment online—particularly during early registration.
Once you reach the website above, you may login with the same name and password that you use for Testudo. Then select the date and time from available slots for the advisor of your choice. If you’d like, you may also indicate what subject you’d like to address with the advisor – this may help the advisor prepare and plan for your meeting.
Please make sure that you remember your scheduled appointment, and as always, it will greatly help if you would come fully prepared for your appointment.
If you are unable to keep your appointment for any reason, please call 301.405.2672 and let us know right away.
RECOMMENDED CHOICE OF ADVISORS
We will encourage upperclassmen to seek regular advising through our Instructors Fawzi Emad, Evan Golub, Larry Herman, Nelson Padua-Perez and Jan Plane. While not a mandate, we expect that students who have progressed past the basics in our program will benefit more by talking with Instructors who are more deeply involved in the academic and research activities of our field.
Underclassmen who have not taken CMSC 131, 132, Calc I and Calc II should continue to seek regular advising from one of our specialists in placement and student success policies, Brandi Adams or Melissa Affolter. (The same is true for students who have forms requiring a Department signature.) We suggest that non-majors in search of advice on taking a CS class see Melissa or Brandi for assistance as well; non-majors considering switching their major to CS should feel free to talk with any of the advisors above for general information on the field, then see Brandi or Melissa for assistance in the paperwork.
