There are many resources on campus to help students find internships and job opportunities. First, be sure to check out options at the Career Center on campus, which offers a variety of services including resume writing workshops, interview strategies and career/job fairs. Through the Career Center you may post a resume on-line. Next, keep tabs of the CMPS Dean’s weekly newsletter (which seems to come out at least every other month … ) It includes announcements for internships, part time jobs, full time jobs, and internships.

The CMPS Dean’s office also administers the Corporate Scholars Program which combines a scholarship with industrial work experiences. It is a very competitive program, so make sure you get your application in early!

Last but not least, the college offers credit for an internship. CMPS 497 is the Internship Program administered by the CMPS Deans Office. Although CMPS 497 may not be used for upper level CMSC credit, all CS majors who qualify may still enroll in it to obtain internship credit and gain valuable field experience with a position that is obtained through (or approved by) CMPS. It is generally open to majors who have completed any two of the three 300-level CMSC courses (311, 330, 351). You may find more information concerning this course at the following here.

MPS 497 is administered by the Dean’s office, and the folks there will answer your specific questions about what sort of jobs qualify. Note that in the process of evaluating your application, the CS department will be asked to evaluate the “learning contract” part of the above form. You can streamline this step by bringing the form to the Undergraduate Education Office, to the attention of Kim Ozga. Processing may take a few days to complete, but we will notify you and the Dean’s office when our role in the process is completed. Be sure you fill out the job portion of the form with a detailed description of the job duties you will be performing, and that these duties are CS related. Forms lacking this information cannot be approved.
