Bioinformatics Support Associate
We are currently seeking an entry level Bioinformatics Support Associate to work in our Gene Silencing group in Germantown, Maryland. The Bioinformatics Support Associate provides technical support to our customers, our sales team, and our manufacturing team. The position requires managing a large number of support requests that typically must be fulfilled within a few hours or at most a few days. Most requests require using a relational database and writing short SQL scripts. Other requests require using our in-house siRNA design software.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Manage queue of support requests received.
  • Communicate with customers, sales representatives, and laboratory technicians to understand all aspects of their requests.
  • Edit, transform, integrate, and tabulate data such as lists of gene, mRNA, or siRNA identifiers.
  • Import and export data to and from relational databases.
  • Perform relational database queries and updates.
  • Help customers select pre-designed siRNAs that meet specific needs.
  • Design new siRNAs for customers with specialized needs.
  • Help customers with special genomic annotation and data formatting needs.
  • Manage siRNA annotation updates.
  • Enter siRNA orders into manufacturing order management database.
  • Manage siRNA inventory using manufacturing order management database.

Skills and experience required:

  • Bachelors degree. Quantitative science preferred, but not necessary.
  • Very strong relational database skills. Must pass an SQL skills assessment exam.
  • Strong scripting skills. Python or Perl preferred.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers.
  • Experience using genomics databases (Entrez Gene, RefSeq, etc.) is a plus.
